Here comes a package for you in a box,
On this box however, are many locks.
What keys will you need to get inside?
That key may fit, but yet it may just lie.
Once you find the key you have to turn,
Be sure that you avoid the fire, the burns.
Reaching in the box, to take out a heart,
Beating for you: don’t break it apart.
The box says fragile, along the side
Carefully you place it back inside.
You read the instructions, one by one,
“1. Don’t use if just for fun.”
“2. Keep it close and keep it safe.”
“3. Don’t throw it away to replace.”
Ignoring the rest, you know what to do,
Lift the heart, and whisper “I love you.”
Beating happily to that little phrase,
The keeper goes into their little daze.
You smile, pleased you did something right,
You take it with you, to bed for the night.
Holding it close and keeping it safe,
You take it slow, taking it pace by pace.
A few months more, and the heart is lost,
It never knew that your love came at a cost.
Speaking to it, you tell it you love another,
You watch as it tears, you stare in wonder.
Each beat slows down, as the heart dies,
And you don’t even have time to cry.
As it writhers, you put it back in its box
Without a care, you do all the locks.
In the dump, the box now goes,
No one knows the sorrow, the heart knows.
Another user, who didn’t read the commands,
But simply broke the heart in their hands.
They ignore the sign which states ‘fragile’,
And break the heart, and in their denial.
Believe that the heart was never worth their time.
Not realising the love received never cost a dime.
The description clearly reads what it is capable of,
“This Heart will give you, unconditional love.”
