Siccaturie ‘Jah Cure’ Alcock
Is he guilty or really an innocent man railroaded for a crime he did not commit? Those are the questions to which the fans of Siccaturie ‘Jah Cure’ Alcock have been longing for true answers. But I believe that the man whose voice now dominates the airwaves with ‘True Reflections’ may be guilty as charged after I read the harrowing account by the victim of the rape. Even though there were some small loopholes and gut checks in her story, I believe for the most part that she has no doubt that her rapist was ‘Jah Cure’. If he were really innocent, why has no one come forward with fresh evidence like an alibi placing him somewhere else on that fateful night. Or why has he never ever said something like, I didn’t do it, I was somewhere else at the time? I believe that he deserves to serve his time for whatever role he played in the terrible run of events that occurred that night. He should serve his time, and stop professing his innocence. As we all know, every man is prison is innocent. That’s just the way it is. Maybe it’s his name that did him in, Alcock, which broken down could be ‘all cock’, and we could safely presume that it was in his nature to be a horny young bastard. 'Jah Cure’, who was transferred to the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre from the St. Catherine Adult Correctional Centre in 2004, and has been recording several songs at a studio that was built there. He has recorded two albums for VP Records, and has had had notable efforts such as ‘Run Come Love Me Tonight’, but his biggest-hit-to-date is no doubt the plaintive ‘Longing For’. Alcock had his application for parole turned down last year despite a passionate campaign launched by his clique of concerned friends, family members, and entertainers. This was after he became eligible for parole on July 28, 2003. 'Jah Cure' was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on April 26, 1999, for two counts of rape, robbery with aggravation, and illegal possession of firearm, all arising from the same incident. He received this sentence at age 19. Commissioner of Corrections Major Richard Reese said that Alcock’s earliest date of release, if he does not breach any regulations, is July 28, 2007. However, if he breaks any rules, he could stay in prison until July 18, 2011. August 13, 2005 General Penitentiary, Kingston, Jamaica Jah Cure interviewed by Josef Bogdanovich DSR: Given the nature of the charges against you, do you think your charges were excessive? Jah-Cure: Everything was excessive sentence was excessive charges was excessive. DSR: Do you think you could really survive 15 years in prison? Jah-Cure: I would have to survive it, because one thing that I know is that I was not going to die, because I see man surviving up to twenty-five. DSR: Do you feel sufficiently rehabilitated to be re-integrated into society? Jah-Cure: Well the system doesn’t rehabilitate one, you know, one rehabilitates themselves and I didn’t really need no rehabilitation but, I capitalized on some ways in which I needed to capitalize on, so I feel I got a chance to rehabilitate myself. DSR: What has the experience of being in prison been like for you? Jah Cure: It’s the roughest experience. It’s a life time experience. It’s the roughest thing that I have ever been through. I don’t think that life can get worse than this for me. DSR: Have you been able to get along with your fellow prisoners? Jah-Cure: I get along with most everyone because, true, I have loved and I studied human psychology, which is used by everyone. I don’t have a problem getting along with people. DSR: Are you scared? Jah-Cure: You cannot be scared when you have the love from the Almighty. Remember that. DSR: Has your creativity been affected by your incarceration? Jah-Cure: No! But prison doesn’t build you. It kills you, so when you really can push through here so; it’s like a rose through the concrete ya!! Knowing that concrete is something hard and you don’t know how a rose would come out through the burst part, but, it’s just Jah works. DSR: What keeps you going? Jah-Cure: Well the prisoner’s keeps me going. DSR: What is your motivation behind bars? Jah Cure: Hearing the fans, singing my music, and knowing that there is someone out there who hears me, loves me. DSR: You seem to be more creative now than you were several years ago? Jah Cure: Yeah, well, I mean I am now capitalizing on all ways possible and building for when I go back out into society. I want to be able to win souls and be a great man. I want to be much better than before, so in my mind it’s a mind frame because you have to get there in your mind before you get there in your flesh. So in my mind I have already gotten there. DSR: Where do you go in your mind to pen such wonderful songs? Jah-Cure: I go the farthest that is mainstream in my mind, but, before I go to mainstream I go physically in the flesh. DSR: Are you earning from your creative efforts? Jah-Cure: Yes. I am earning physically, spiritually, almost in every way, because you never can loose in a work like this cause music speaks the universal language. DSR: Are you satisfied that while you are in jail, your earnings are in good hands? Jah-Cure: Yes. My income is set up inna way. I have my mother and my agents out there and they are monitoring I Cure Music Company. DSR: Do you think that the music contributes to the present level of crime and violence? Jah-Cure: Yeah mon! You have to know what your saying but, I am not going to smash no artist. Just know what you’re saying because the world is listening. DSR: What is your favorite all-time song? Jah-Cure: A Beres Hammond, that says. “Warriors don’t cry, lots of folks will hate you, not because they want to but sometimes they don’t even know why.” DSR: How did you get involved with DownSound Records? Jah-Cure: I first got involved with them, let me see, a year ago or so with a tune that I recorded with them called “Congo Man” on the Maroon Riddim. Then a month ago “True Reflection.” We recorded that here in GP. The video, everything. I like DownSound, everything they do. Big up! DSR: Which dancehall and reggae artistes do you admire and why? Jah-Cure: Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Yami Bolo, Sizzla, Capleton because they are my inspiration and when I see them make mistakes I can capitalize and come good because I see their down fall and their greatest errors in certain aspects of the business. DSR: Who is Jah Cure? Jah-Cure: Jah Cure is just somebody who is loving and free spirit and gets miserable whenever things is not right, a nuh nutten a ghetto we come from. DSR: What was your first job? Jah-Cure: My first job was to pin up bags in a supermarket two days Friday and Saturday and collect a little $60, anything drop down behind the counter was mine. DSR: Who was the first person you ever loved? Jah-Cure: Well, the first person I have ever loved is Shamara and it seems as if no other love ever got so real and a just so it go. DSR: When was the last time you cried? Jah-Cure: The last time I cried was when I came to G.P and I saw how G.P was wicked and I was wondering why I left Spanish Town and Spanish Town was so smooth and I was doing all good and I never did anything. It was like a secondary heaven coming to a first degree hell....

A Country Experience
Hey Turner, this weekend was fun, I went down to Montego Bay; had a few bad experience with my car- over heating, due to racing with some over-the-top, bad boys of the road or so they think- you know who am talking about, those little souped-up Hondas. I was driving my old 1986 Mercedes, which so happened to be automatic...but I knew how to handle the BAD roads, but what I did not know, was that I was trodding the wrong road; I ended up on a road which some locals say will take me to Mobay - Some place called "Higgins land" in St. Ann. The people there are beautiful and friendly or maybe it seems that way because I am a ‘tourist’, which ever way though, I got out, and low and behold, I saw my marker again - Mr. Souped-up Honda. The race was on again until I heard my car making a funny sound as if it was my tyre that was losing some air, I stopped to checked it out; gladly it was not my tyre, but rather the engine frying as if it was cooking me chicken for lunch. Again, I was fortunate by the hands of an old rasta man who was trying to hustle. He was sitting under a plum tree where some local boys who seemed as if they were coming from a football match; all of them were dressed in uniformed jersey, but they seemed hungry, and were eating the plums. They were there messing with the old rasta man who was giving them some valuable advice, which was not absorbed. They rather ridiculed him and made funny jokes about him wanting to ‘hold a fresh’. So, I pulled over and asked where I could get some water to put in my car, the old Rasta man answered quickly as if he did not want the boys to get the ‘roast’ “is what yu want, wata”? I said ‘yea man’, he said “ Yu have nuh jug in deh”? I said ‘yea man’, he said “Gimmi, meck mi go get some wata fi yu, is jus’ up the road.” I was a bit skeptic, and wondered if this dude would come back with my jug, thinking if I should give it to him, but being as shrewd as I am, I figured out that my little jug was not that significant to either of us, and this fella was looking rather sane; so I thought that if he wanted to take the jug and give up a quick two bills that he was about to get, that would be his problem. After all, many people there would be willing and happy to take the two bills, because it’s quick money. Anyways I got the water, put it in the car, drove off, and just my luck the car was again still overheating; some electrical problems developed. I had to get the mechanics to fix car. Car worked fine from there on. I dropped off my friend computer, and held a deserved fresh then headed out to a nice country restaurant. Later, it was party time…and so it went…...

7 Low-Carb Myths & More
If you haven't heard of Atkins or the South Beach Diet, you've probably been living under a rock for quite some time. The low-carb diet craze has taken on gargantuan proportions in the media and in Americans' everyday lives over the past year. Many snack food companies are even developing low-carb versions of their products, such as Frito-Lay's Doritos Edge and Coke's C2, which promises "half the sugar, calories and carbohydrates of a regular cola, with all the great taste of Coca-Cola." Unfortunately, many claims made by low-carb diet gurus are simply not based on scientific evidence. But before I get into low-carb myths, here's a little crash course in nutrition. All carbs are not created equal. Simple carbs, such as chips, pastries and white bread, are easily digested and make you feel hungry again in no time. Complex carbs like fruits, vegetables and whole-grain breads, on the other hand, are "slow-burning" and make you feel fuller for longer. In this sense, complex carbs are "good" and simple carbs are "bad." Low-carb diets claim, to varying degrees, that all carbs make you fat and that you can lose weight by eliminating them from your diet. The belief is that with no carbs available as energy, your body will turn to your fat stores and burn those instead. These diets usually involve increasing your protein intake. For example, Dr. Atkins' diet dictates that you can eat all the protein you want, even fatty meats such as bacon, as long as you steer clear of carbs. The South Beach Diet, which claims not to be a low-carb diet, eliminates carbs completely for two weeks, and then slowly reintroduces a minimal amount of complex ones. Now let's see why these claims are not scientifically sound. Myth #1: Eliminating carbs helps you lose weight and keep it off Although it's true that you will initially shed some pounds if you cut carbs from your diet, the bad news is that you'll gain them all back -- and more -- as soon as you start eating carbs again. Proponents of the Atkins diet will argue that this shouldn't happen because it isn't a diet, but rather a way of eating (WOE) you must adopt for life. Unfortunately, this is practically impossible to do, since carbs are an essential component of human nutrition, most people will end up going back to carbs at some point. In fact, many will even go overboard and binge on them because they have been deprived for so long. Plus, it has been shown that the longer someone is on a low carb diet, the more "carb sensitive" they become. In other words, when you start eating carbs again, your body will think: Whoa, what's this? Haven't seen these in a while, I better store them as fat since I may never see them again! That's when you start packing on the pounds. Think increasing your protein intake will help you gain muscle and lose fat Myth #2: Reducing carbs and increasing protein helps weight loss The main role of protein is to contribute to muscle and tissue growth, maintenance and repair; carbs act as your body's primary source of energy. However, if there are no carbs available, your body will convert protein into glucose for energy (gluconeogenesis), which reduces the body's protein stores. This not only affects your muscle mass, but it also slows your metabolic rate, meaning that you will end up burning less calories and, ultimately, gain weight. Myth #3: Carbs work with insulin to cause weight gain Many low-carb diets focus on the relationship between carbs and insulin, a hormone that transforms fuel into fat. The belief is that carbs cause insulin to be less effective at transporting sugar to the cells and that the excess sugar is stored as fat. Although insulin does play a role in fat storage, it also ships necessary glucose to the muscles. Thus, our diets should aim to maintain stable insulin levels, not try to suppress its release. Myth #4: It's healthy to lose weight quickly at first You will lose weight when you first stop eating carbs. However, if your body weight and fat levels drop too low, your T3 levels -- a molecule in your thyroid gland that helps to regulate your metabolic rate -- could be altered. A low-carb diet can reduce T3 and thus slow metabolism, particularly in people who over-exercise and under-eat. Therefore, this type of diet combined with lots of exercise could have the opposite effect in the long run, as your body ends up burning fewer calories. Myth #5: Protein is the best ingredient to build muscle and eliminate fat Here's a fact that might surprise you: Muscle fullness depends largely on carbs. Low-carb diets tend to make muscles flatter and less dense, so if you're trying to increase your muscle mass, you definitely need carbs. Low carb levels can also make your muscles feel softer and make you feel tired and lethargic. Myth #6: You'll lose more than water weight No matter what low-carb proponents claim, a lot of the weight you lose via these diets is water weight. About three to five grams of water accompany every gram of carbohydrate. So, when you stop ingesting carbs, it's normal to lose water weight. The added downside is that when you start eating carbs again, you will retain excess water and feel bloated. Although your body will eventually eliminate it, you might feel like a beached whale for a while. Myth #7: You can eat all the protein you want Red meat and other sources of protein recommended by many low-carb diets are very high in fat, which increases your risk of heart disease, cancer and obesity. A high-protein diet can have many other negative effects, such as irreversible kidney damage and an increase in your risk for osteoporosis. hell no, we won't go (low-carb) The bottom line is that you shouldn't be duped by every dieting trend that's thrown your way. Come on, what's next? Low-carb water? A diet that consists of eating only Brussels sprouts? By Sabrina Rogers...
