It was hot and balmy as tia sat down on the porch step. She was wondering what her life had come to. She looked around as the hot air swirled around her "boy if it would jus rain" she said " I would be so glad". She had lost so much in such a short period of time, her husband had left her after 15 years with 2 small children, she lost her job, her house and car and almost lost her mind. But some how the will to survive was far stronger than desire to give up. Just then the slamming of the screen door caught her attention as her babies ran out into the yard. "Mommy, mommy he hit me" cried her 3yr old daughter Tammy. "Yeah but she was botherin me" exclaimed Halson her 4yr old son. Her heart broke every time she looked at her son for all she could see was the reflection of her ex-husband, but her love for her kids exceeded any feelings she had for as she liked to call him the jerk. "Hey y'all cut out the foolishness for I get mad". But as the kids looked at her she realized they knew the threats were just empty promises. "So wat y'all want for lunch?" She knew what the answer was but maybe, just maybe one day the would surprise her. "Hot dog", they yellied in unison "I want ketchup" cried Tammy. "That is not a side order" she told her daughter as though that made a difference.
